While it is January and very cold outside, there are some things that we are doing in the garden and you can too. Like mentioned in the last post we are about to start construction on our new composting “stall”. You may consider a composting bin of your own. It is a great way to use the scraps from your kitchen.  With a little time the scraps create a wonderful organic food for your veggies and plants. If you already have a composting bin going, consider digging a trench about a spades depth along the rows in your garden. This type of composting works best where your runner beans will grow, or any vine veggie.  As soon as you put in the scraps cover loosely with soil so not to attract raccoons or foxes. You will see the difference when you harvest those happy beans.

We are also getting ready for our early spring crops. If you would like to grow onions from seeds, now is the time. Plant them indoors and give them a sunny place to germinate. Come March they can go in the ground.

Next week we will be getting the potatoes ready. So come on back!
